Medal of Honor: Warfighter is set to release tomorrow, October 23, but you may have noticed a lack of reviews for EA's new first-person shooter. That's because EA and Danger Close are working to ensure that the experience on launch day is "outstanding". That means they want reviewers to experience both the single player and multiplayer modes at their full functionality (and we can probably expect a launch day patch to smooth over some last minute bugs).
Many users seem to take this as a "buyer beware" warning. Maybe the game is not as good as its been hyped? Personally, I don't think that's the case.
It's no secret that many first-person shooters these days are catered more towards online multiplayer, so if you think about it, how can you show off the game's best aspect before millions are online enjoying it? Can you really get the optimal online experience before it launches?
Now without having played the game, I can't say for certain that multiplayer is the "best" aspect of Warfighter, but I will bet that when it's all said and done it will be the most played feature. It definitely is one of the most talked-about features. Sure, the single player story — which picks up where Medal of Honor left off as you continue to control Tier 1 Operators through various scenarios — is likely to be an entertaining one, but when it comes to replay value, most first-person shooters rely on the multiplayer portion.
We simply wouldn't be doing the game justice by reviewing it prior to launch. To be perfectly honest, this should be the case for most games that boast an in-depth online multiplayer mode. Of course, there could be ways around this. EA could've sent out early copies strictly for the single-player campaign review and embargoed the multiplayer portion until launch day.
Maybe EA is feeling a little timid about its highly-anticipated game. Maybe you should be wary. But perhaps not. More than likely, many of you have already made up your mind about Medal of Honor: Warfighter, so this is meant more towards those on the borderline. Either way, GameZone is set to receive our review copy tomorrow so we'll be sure to play the sh*t out of it to get you an in-depth review as quickly as possible.
