Don’t expect Deadpool to cross over with X-Men any time soon

Deadpool's Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have confirmed that the character has come away from X-Men and its unlikely fans will see a crossover any time soon.

The two writers were involved in an interview with The Playlist, following three weeks of Deadpool dominance in the box office.

"Deadpool’s now become a brand and franchise unto himself, independent of the X-Men and that’s great. That gives the studio two franchises in one, but I think it is its own franchise, and you’ll see synergy between those two properties, but they’re two very distinct brands," said Wernick.

Many fans of the fun character have already drawn up fantasy plans for Deadpool, chiefly including a move into the X-Men, but it seems the product will ideally take a different direction.

Reese added: "If you look at the Iron Man model they had two Iron Man [films] before they had an Avengers, and if left up to us, I think that would be a very prudent path."

"The second issue at hand is the X-Men universe timeline. The X-Men series is currently set in the 1980s, Deadpool, is set three decades later in our present day."

The main issue surrounding the merging of these two movies is the timeline, though, however it seems like it's out of Reese and Wernick's hands.

"It’s a timeline that will eventually catch up I would imagine," said Wernick, "But [X-Men Producer] Simon [Kinberg’s] more the keeper of that universe and maybe we’ll see more X-Men playing in Deadpool’s sandbox and probably Deadpool playing in their sandbox at some point."

So, if you were waiting for – or hoping for – a possible crossover between both X-Men and Deadpool, it seems you'll be waiting a long time. Or will you?
