Don’t worry, The Batman will be in the DCEU; Director clarifies comments

Yesterday, we reported that the director for The Batman, Matt Reeves, said in an interview that the first standalone film starring the Caped Crusader since The Dark Knight Rises wouldn't take place within the DCEU. While it wouldn't be completely surprising since Warner Bros is interested in branching out with standalone Elseworld-like stories, Reeves has clarified that he didn't mean it like that.

After his month old statements surfaced yesterday and caused an uproar on the internet, Reeves took to Twitter to make his statement more clear. The Batman will be a standalone story but he meant that it wouldn't have cameos for Superman, Wonder Woman, and it wouldn't be bogged down by being set in this universe. It'll be canon to the DCEU but it won't make a big deal out of being apart of a shared universe.

"Just to be clear: Of COURSE Batman will be part of the D.C. Universe. Batman will be BATMAN," stated Reeves on his Twitter account. "In my comments from a while back about not being part of the DCEU, I was talking about The Batman being a story specifically about Batman not about the others in the Universe. That it wouldn't be filled with cameos servicing other stories — that it would be a BATMAN story."

So there ya have it, The Batman isn't going to be in some other universe. It'll be connected to the world DC and Warner Bros. have already spent years developing with movies like Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and the upcoming Justice League.

Justice League opens in theaters on November 17th, 2017. There's currently no release date for The Batman but many expect it to hit sometime in 2019.
