Twitch has suspended Donald Trump alongside the likes of Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. While President Donald Trump does not use the Twitch account to play video games, his account, like other politicians, has been used to stream political events like rallies and even a talk show.
Twitch issued a statement noting that the events at the Capitol earlier this week are behind the suspension.
“In light of yesterday’s shocking attack on the Capitol, we have disabled President Trump’s Twitch channel,” a Twitch spokesperson said in a statement. “Given the current extraordinary circumstances and the President’s incendiary rhetoric, we believe this is a necessary step to protect our community and prevent Twitch from being used to incite further violence.”
The Twitch suspension has seemingly only prohibited the account from broadcasting or uploading videos. The page can still be viewed and archives are available to be watched. Twitch has said they will re-evaluate his suspension after he leaves office on January 20th. This is not the first time Donald Trump has been removed from the live-streaming platform. In June 2020, he was temporarily suspended form Twitch due to “hateful conduct”.
Discord has also banned pro-Trump server, The Donald, which had ties to a banned subreddit.
“We have a zero-tolerance policy against hate and violence of any kind on the platform, or the use of Discord to support or organize around violent extremism,” Discord told The Verge. “While there is no evidence of a server called The Donald being used to organize the Jan 6 riots, Discord decided to ban the entire server today due to its overt connection to an online forum used to incite violence, plan an armed insurrection in the United States, and spread harmful misinformation related to 2020 U.S. election fraud.”
As of right now, there are no major platforms besides YouTube for Donald Trump. The President did try to make a comment on Twitter from the official POTUS account (separate to his banned personal account) but the tweets were swiftly deleted.
