Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D to include easy mode

Nintendo has revealed that Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D will feature an easy mode. This new option will give Donkey and Diddy three hearts instead of the regular two, toning down the overall intensity of the experience.

When Donkey Kong Country Returns landed on the Wii, it was one of the more punishing 2D platformers around at the time. It required good twitch reflexes and plenty of patience. This new easy mode may not exactly make the game very easy per se, but it'll certainly relieve some of the (joyous) stress that the original version boasted. Worry not, though, because if you're a purist, you can select Original mode and endure the adventure with only two hearts.

In addition to the easy component, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D will also include some bonus content. Clearing every special stage, for example, will unlock "a brand new surprise." There's also local co-op in store for players who want to enjoy the game alongside a buddy. Given how much fun the two-player co-op mode was in the original release, this is certainly a great thing to add to the upcoming 3DS iteration.
