Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Bravely Default boost Wii U, 3DS game sales

Wii U and 3DS software sales in February increased by more than 180 percent and more than 25 percent, respectively, over the same month last year, Nintendo revealed today.

“February 2014 saw positive software sales for Nintendo’s 3DS and the Wii U, lifted by new software launches of Bravely Default and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze," said NPD Group's Liam Callahan.

Providing a little more clarification, Nintendo revealed that Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, which launched on February 21, sold more than 130,000 units in just eight days on the market. Bravely Default, meanwhile, sold more than 200,000 combined units in just over three weeks of availability. 

Pokémon X and Pokémon Y sold more than 130,000 combined units in their fifth month on the market. Life-to-date sales for the games have now reached 3.4 million units combined in the United States.

Meanwhile, combined Xbox One and PS4 software sales, through their first four months of availability, are up 80 percent compared to Xbox 360 and PS3 during the same period.
