Doom 4 stil in development, Bethesda ‘swinging for the fences’

In a report that surfaced yesterday from QuakeCon, id Software’s co-founder John Carmack confirmed that Doom 4 was still “coming along,” and was making strides in its development stages. Though Carmack stressed that games should feature much shorter development cycles, he restated what’s been fed to the press and gamers for months pertaining to the upcoming shooter: “It will be done when it’s done.”

Later on in his presser, Carmack confirmed to the press that id Software’s mobile games team was shutting down to focus on upcoming triple-A titles, hinting that their future projects will be much grander in scale than some recent titles. Today at QuakeCon, though, the co-founder elaborated on their decision to shut down their mobile games department:

"The Bethesda family really is about swinging for the fences. I hope that we do get back to mobile in various ways in the future, but the real aim is blockbuster triple-A titles, and for id that means Doom 4,” said Carmack. “Essentially everybody will be focused on Doom 4 as a project."

Carmack also confirmed that the team working on the Doom 3 BFG Edition will transfer over to development on Doom 4 once it ships on October 16, 2012.
