DOOM Eternal delayed to March 2020, Switch version even later

Sad Toot

Bad news for fans of no-nonsense shooter action and gratuitous violence. Bethesda has announced the delay of DOOM Eternal to March 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Switch owners will have to wait even longer with an unannounced date. As a goodwill gesture, every pre-order will receive DOOM 64 for free once Eternal launches.

Id’s brilliant reboot of the DOOM franchise revitalized old school first-person shooting in 2016. Ever since, fans have been waiting eagerly for a sequel which doubles down on the satisfying and fast-paced action. DOOM Eternal was finally unveiled last year and was intended to come out this November. Today, we sadly learn that the developer has decided to delay the game for five months, in favor of polishing and delivering the best possible experience to gamers.

We obviously would have wanted to play DOOM Eternal as soon as possible but as the wise gaming legend Shigeru Miyamoto once said, A delayed game is eventually good. A bad game is bad forever. As such, we begrudgingly accept todays news and hope that the final game will blow us away even more than we hope.

To make sure we’re delivering the best experience—for DOOM Eternal to live up to our standards of speed and polish—we’ve made the decision to extend our launch date by a few months to March 20, 2020. We know many fans will be disappointed by this delay, but we are confident that DOOM Eternal will deliver a gaming experience that is well worth the wait.

For the time being, we can at least rest in solace that with the wait, there’s also a silver lining in form of a freebie. Bethesda has announced that they will be giving out DOOM 64 for everyone who pre-orders DOOM Eternal. This port of an overlooked Nintendo 64 DOOM game will launch on the same date as Eternal.

If you plan to play DOOM Eternal on your Nintendo Switch however, you will have to wait a bit longer, as Bethesda has not announced when Eternal is going to launch there.
