I for one am incredibly excited for BioShock Infinite. I hold nothing back about that particular personal bias. I also know I’m not alone in this giddy nature. If you’re one of those hardcore BioShock fans who preordered the Limited Edition BioShock Infinite set, you maaaaaay want to double check your order; a stealth backorder issues is on the rise.
On SideQuesting.com, writer Dalibor Dimovski received an email stating that “We’re sorry, the item below remains unavailable and the order has been canceled;” the item being The Limited Edition copy of BioShock Infinite. This occurred late Monday night. The order from Best Buy was canceled and his money was refunded.
The issue was that the game was listed as backordered instead of preordered. Soon Dalibor learned he was not alone in this. After calling Best Buy’s customer service, he learned that more than three thousand others fell under this same curse across both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Some people have been getting $10 Best Buy gift cards for this mishap. The incentive from preordering from Best Buy included a $20 reward Zone bonus to use exclusively on future DLC.
The moral of this story is that while electronic orders are far easier than going out and doing it in person, there are still things that can go terribly wrong. Seriously, go check your preorder. You don’t want this to happen to you. Check your email and spam folders.
