Double Fine’s Hack ‘n’ Slash will soon hack into Steam Early Access

After jumping from theory to prototype to playable, Double Fine’s puzzle adventure game Hack ‘n’ Slash is now aiming for Steam Early Access before its 2014 PC release.

True to studio form, Hack ‘n’ Slash is unconventional to its core. Though it’s little more than an adorable dungeon-crawler led by an Elfish heroine on the surface, the game revels in distorting and outright breaking the once-sacred aspects of adventure game design by letting the player fiddle with them.

You’ll rewrite enemy AI to send them running off, create portals between naturally unconnected levels, and literally delete even the baddest of villains. And you’ll do so by accessing the programming and code of the game itself. Rest assured, there’s no technical expertise required (although it may come in handy); you just have to get creative.
