David Gaider has been working with BioWare since 1999 as both a writer and game designer, after 17 years Gaider is calling it quits. He has worked on Baldur's Gate 2, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Neverwinter Nights and all of the Dragon Age games.
Though Gaider has influenced plenty of games, he is best known for his work on Dragon Age – he created the world of Thedas and the characters we know the best (Morrigan, Alistir, Cassandra). Over his years working on the game he has had petitions against and for him over depictions of characters, defended character sexuality and even delved deeper into character development in Dragon Age with us.
The fact that Gaider is removing himself from BioWare might not be too much of a surprise, back in March of last year (months after Dragon Age: Inquisition released) the writer revealed that he intended on leaving Dragon Age to work on a new project,. His reasoning was that 10 years was too long to devote to one project.
It looks like Gaider is looking to broaden his horizons after leaving BioWare, teasing that he will reveal where he's heading in time. "As to where I'm headed next, that announcement will come in due time–today's about saying goodbye and packing up," Gaider told Polygon.
Who knows, we might see a Kickstarter from him in the future.
