Dragon Quest XI S – Definitive Edition comes to PS4, Xbox One, and PC this Holiday

Square Enix has unveiled that Dragon Quest XI S – Definitive Edition is going to launch on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One this December 4th. This edition will feature new content, game modes, and an orchestral score. Watch the announcement trailer here!

While Dragon Quest XI has been out for several years already, this definitive edition is plenty of reason to get excited. First of all, it’s based on the much newer Nintendo Switch version of the game, hence ‘S’. What this means, is that Dragon Quest XI S – Definitive Edition comes with all the awesome upgrades and improvements of the Switch port.

Players can look forward to the much-appreciated addition of an actual orchestral music track alongside new storylines, and an awesome 2D mode that turns the entire game into a top-down pixel art retro JRPG!

Enjoy the massive content of the base game as well as new character-specific scenarios, which offer the possibility to learn more about some of your favourite companions.

Play as you want – switch between 3D HD or 2D 16-bit modes, original soundtrack or orchestral version of the music, and English or Japanese audio.

Dive into the 16-bit World of Tickington – an additional side-quests area that see you journeying to past DRAGON QUEST worlds reimagined in retro style.

Speed up battle by x2 and x4, ride new mountable monsters and attack with them on the field to earn experience points.

Spice up the adventure with three new Draconian Quest settings such as ‘Super Shypox’, ‘Townsfolk Talk Tripe’, or ‘Party Wiped Out if Protagonist Perishes’.

Immortalise your adventure with the photo mode, pose each of the characters and snap some pictures with the beautifully designed world of Erdrea in the background.

All this comes with a price for all existing owners, however. Quite literally, as Dragon Quest XI S – Definitive Edition will be a standalone game with no upgrade path for owners of the original version on PS4 and PC according to the official FAQ. At least it’s budgeted at $39.99.

Dragon Quest XI S – Definitive Edition also marks the debut for the iconic JRPG franchise on the Xbox. Alongside the newly unveiled Balan Wonderland, this is an important message going forwards into next-gen that Xbox has big plans to win over the large crowd of gamers that enjoy Japan-centric games.
