Dragon’s Dogma anime adaption is coming to Netflix this September

Capcom and Netflix have announced that the Japanese game publisher’s open-world fantasy action-RPG Dragon’s Dogma is getting an anime adaptation. Users of the subscription service can look forward to September 17th for when the anime is set to premiere.

It sure looks like Netflix anime adaptations are the hot new trend when it comes to games. Especially, if they originate from Japan. One could say it’s only natural since anime originates from the same country but it’s still an unusual cross-over for gaming fans.

After Konami struck gold by putting their huge Castlevania IP into anime form on Netflix, it was only a matter of time before other companies followed suit after all. And if the Dragon’s Dogma anime show is as good as that viewers are in for a great time. Netflix already shared their plans for a Dragon’s Dogma anime show last year and it looks like converting the game’s world and story went quickly enough.

Not much has been disclosed about the show just yet apart from a short description. Going by that the show will adhere close to the game’s story by featuring an Arisen, the game’s protagonist, who is on the quest to reclaim his heart from the titular dragon Grigori.

While Dragon’s Dogma received current-gen remasters and even a Nintendo Switch port, there never really was a sequel to one of the more interesting last-gen games. Deep Down was seen as exactly that for the longest time but it never really materialized, leading to disappointed fans.

This anime adaption could be a positive sign that Capcom has bigger plans for the IP going forward. It would be very strange for any publisher to not make a sequel to a popular game as well. Our bets are on a full sequel that is aiming next-gen systems. In the meantime, enjoy these first images of the anime show!
