Showrunner of Netflix's Daredevil has been signed on to both write and direct the upcoming 'X-Force' feature.
Since the announcement of the upcoming line-up of 20th Century Fox's Marvel projects, fans the world over have been on the edge of their collective seats. The first forays into the rated R pockets of the Marvel universe came with the highly successful 'Deadpool' and 'Logan'. With a new life brought into the once faultering X-Men film franchise, the news came that more adaptations were on the way. Among those titles were 'Deadpool 2', 'New Mutants', 'Gambit', 'X-Men: Dark Phoenix' (formerly 'X-Men: Supernova') and 'X-Force'.
While so far only DP2 and 'X-Force' are expected to be rated R, it became clear that a steady hand would need to be at the wheel to make sure XF can capture the same excitement of its predecessors. As a result, Drew Goddard, writer/director of 'Cabin in the Woods' and showrunner for Netflix's Daredevil, has been attached to both write and direct the mutant ensemble movie.
There has yet to be a full cast announcement, especially since a decision on which mutant anti-heroes would fill out the roster has yet to be made, but it has been confirmed that not only will Ryan Reynolds be reprising his role as Wade Wilson/Deadpool, but Josh Brolin will also play a major role on the team as Nathan Summers, aka Cable, who will make his debut in 'Deadpool 2'. A release date for 'X-Force' is still to be determined, but it's likely we won't get to see it until at least 2019 considering most of the other projects are slated for a 2018 release.
