Remember when we told you that Driveclub's release date was coming soon? Well, it's here. Sony has finally announced the release date of Driveclub which means the speculation and rumors can come to an end. Barring anymore delays, the highly anticipated racer will be released exclusively for PlayStation 4 on October 7, 2014.
Driveclub was originally announced back in February 2013 during the PlayStation 4 reveal event. It was planned as a PS4 launch title, but was delayed shortly before the system's launch in November.
"We planned for the game to be ready for early 2014 and are committed to delivering on our ambitious promise of creating a truly innovative, socially connected racing game," said SCE Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida.
"The problem with being ambitious is you have to be prepared to accept there will be challenges along the way. What Driveclub offers has not been previously achieved in this category, and, because of this, the team needed more time to give you the game you’re waiting for," he added.
In addition to today's release date, Sony has released a new video showcasing Evolution Studios' progress on the game. Yoshida also confirmed that Driveclub has a new game director, Paul Rustchynsky, who previously worked as game director on MotorStorm RC.
"With Rushy in the lead, we know Driveclub will deliver on its initial promise to be a truly next gen racing title for our PS4 portfolio," Yoshida said. "We are really proud of the incredible work the team has produced — their tenacity and passionate pursuit of excellence is admirable, and Driveclub will be all the better for it."
