Driveclub PS Plus Edition is finally available on PS4

After what felt like an eternity wait, Driveclub PS Plus Edition is finally available! Yes, the free, slightly restrictive version of Evolution Studios' PlayStation 4 exclusive racer can now be downloaded from the PS Store by PlayStation Plus members.

"We’ve spent a long time preparing for this launch after some difficult and unexpected set-backs. To make absolutely certain that all players have the smoothest and most stable experience possible we are going to be duly cautious about how we release the game this time around," said SCE Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida.

Although you can download Driveclub PS Plus Edition today, it'll only be playable in offline mode to start. To avoid server problems, online gameplay will be rolled out "steadily", bringing "more and more players online while continuously ensuring that all game systems are running smoothly."

"We know that this might be frustrating after your extra wait already, but hope you can understand that we are taking extra precautions to protect your experience when you do get online," Yoshida said. "We want to make sure we don’t overload the servers as we invite millions of PS Plus members to download the game tomorrow."

"We have to take this precaution because Driveclub connectivity is demanding for a multiplayer game, with countless ever-growing social connections across clubs, challenges, multiplayer, and hundreds of thousands of dynamic leaderboards and activity feeds."

Now it's been quite a while since we last saw the contents of the Driveclub PS Plus Edition, so as a reminder it includes one location (India), 11 tracks, 5 tour events, and 10 cars to race with. All of the same game modes and online capabilities of the "complete" retail version, including challenges, competitive online races, and the ability to join a club will be offered. Think of it as sort of a glorified demo, giving you the option to play the game and upgrade at any time to the full edition for one single payment of $49.99. Once you upgrade, all of the tracks, cars, and DLC will become available to you.

You can download Driveclub PlayStation Plus Edition here.
