DSi and DSi XL Get Price Drops

Nintendo today announced that on September 12 they are dropping the SRP of both their DSi and the DSi XL. The DSi will now be $149.99, down from it’s launch price of $169.99. The XL is dropping down to $169.99 from it’s original price of $189.99. The DS Lite will keep it’s current price of $129.99.

Cammie Dunaway, NOA executive VP of Sales & Marketing, said, “We know shoppers want to get the maximum value out of every dollar they spend … Our new Nintendo DSi prices make it easier than ever for consumers to access the tremendous variety of games, applications and social tools on the Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL systems.”

This may also be part of Nintendo’s preparation to make room on the pricing scale for the upcoming 3DS, which we know is set for a launch sometime before the end of their fiscal year (which ends March 2011), it may also help push a few million units out the doors before the new system launches. Still, it’s unclear whether or not Nintendo will continue selling any of the original DS line when the 3DS launches.
