With the longstanding legal battles behind them, Allspark Studios (Hasbro) and Sweetpea Entertainment have now joined forces with Warner Bros. in developing an all new Dungeons & Dragons film. Apparently David Leslie Johnson (Conjuring 2) has already submitted a script for the film with it being set in the Forgotten Realms. If that sounds familiar, it's because the Forgotten Realms is the current setting for D&D with games like Neverwinter on PC and Xbox One.
Warner Bros' Greg Silverman is excited about the project and commented on the film's announcement. “We are so excited about bringing the world of Dungeons & Dragons to life on the big screen. This is far and away the most well-known brand in fantasy, which is the genre that drives the most passionate film followings. D&D has endless creative possibilities, giving our filmmakers immense opportunities to delight and thrill both fans and moviegoers new to the property.”
There is such a vast array of available material for a D&D movie that the possibilities are endless. Franchises such as Dragonlance (which would be awesome), Drizz't DoUrden, Neverwinter and more have a gigantic story line available and it will be curious to see where they go with the final script. No cast or director announcements have been made at this time but we'll keep you up to date as they come out..
