Namco Bandai has launched a free-to-play Tekken game exclusively on the PlayStation Network for PS3. It's available now.
In Tekken Revolution, players choose from an "initial cast" of eight characters and can train and battle them against A.I. opponents in Arcade Mode. They can also compete against real contenders worldwide through online Ranked and Player matches. New Special Arts and Critical Arts moves are designed to help both newcomers and veteran players hone their skills and maximize combat.
Tekken Revolution also brings an entirely new element to the long-running fighting game series: level-ups. Players can permanently increase their characters' power, endurance, and vigor to suit their play style, creating fighters that excel in offense or defense, for example.
And it's all free to play.
“We are extremely proud that the Tekken franchise will be the first in the fighting game genre to adopt the free-to-play business model for the console market,” said Katsuhiro Harada, the series director, in a press statement. “By moving to a free-to-play model, we hope to open up the fighting game genre to a larger audience. We are excited to see everyone’s reaction to the Special Arts, Critical Arts, and the character enhancement system; we also have several major updates with additional content scheduled for Tekken Revolution, so we hope everyone will stay tuned!”
