E3 2016: A closer look at FIFA 17’s Journey star, Alex Hunter

If you would have heard the name Alex Hunter a few weeks ago, a lady from USA Network's Whitecollar series might well have sprung to mind, but this week at E3 we were told that this mysterious character was about to become the centre-piece of a FIFA 17 Journey.

Now it seems that EA Sports has covered in some blanks for Hunter, releasing a small backstory for the player on their official website, along with further explanation as to how this story-style mode will pan out.

The statement includes the following:

"Alex is a 17-year-old from humble roots in Clapham, London who has football in the blood. Guided by his grandfather and English legend Jim Hunter (20 goals in the 1966-67 season), Alex has a name that carries weight in football circles, obstacles to overcome, and a personal legacy to build. Alex now has a promising footballing career in front of him, but how far can he go? That’s up to you."

For those that haven't heard already, EA Sports revealed the real-life Alex Hunter (below) during their annual E3 press conference, where he presented the game's new story mode for the very first time.

At that point many fans might not have understood the concept and premise of The Journey, but this latest screenshot shows us a little more of what we can come to expect.

Gamers will be able to use their Alex Hunter character in the same way as an RPG game, making decisions in press conferences and interviews that effect the way in which they develop as a footballer.

Whether you want to take the respectful approach and answers questions in an honourable manner, or maybe even give your player a chip on his shoulder, the decision will be yours entirely.

You may have also noticed that Hunter is wearing many different kits in the promotional material too, and that's because in FIFA 17's Journey mode you will be able to select which Premier League team that you want Hunter to sign for.

But, it won't just be your decisions off the pitch that will contribute towards your development. Another statement from EA Sports.com reads:

"In The Journey, Alex Hunter’s Premier League career is impacted by your performance on the pitch, and the decisions you make off of it. Make critical decisions throughout the game that will change what happens next and how other characters react to you. Will you put your team first before your own success? The choice is yours."

EA Sports has also announced that a number of Premier League players have been used as voice actors for the new games, giving the storylines a little more authenticity – one could presume.
