E3 2016: Battlefield 1 multiplayer first impressions

After the official EA Play event was over, DICE hosted a big live Battlefield 1 multiplayer stream which showed off a lot of mouthwatering gameplay.

DICE mixed pro gamers, YouTubers, and full-on celebrities like Terry Crews, Richard Sherman, Snoop Lion, and Zac Efron,to make up the 64 player roster.

From what was shown in the stream, it looks like Battlefield 1 will be the best Battlefield game in the franchise. Going back in time does NOT mean going back in features, DICE has improved on everything.

From what could be seen everything was running smooth, maybe even smoother than Battlefield 4 was when it first launched. The destruction is massive, bigger than ever before and everything can be destroyed. For example, the giant airship, which none of the teams really figured out how to use, can get taken down and when it does it falls to the ground, it explodes and the explosion takes out everything under it, changing the map in a major way since it can basically take out an entire village or all of the cover that is on your team's spawn point.

The airship is also player controllable!

DICE even changed how doors behave. In the past players had to wait for a button prompt to be able to open doors, now players can just rush into the door to break it down and hunt down whoever is hiding behind it. Keeping on the subject of destruction, when an artillery shell explodes it even changes the ground. If a shell lands on the ground and explodes it will create a crater.

At least one new class has been added, the Tank class, which is a lot different than the other classes. When the tanker spawns, they spawn in a tank with a completely unique loadout. This can potentially revolutionize Battlefield with a new class that is dedicated to vehicles making the hunt for a tank or car at the start a distant memory, allowing tankers to get to the front faster than ever before.

DICE has paid a lot of attention to detail in Battlefield 1 and even the weather will change how the game will play. The weather itself might change during the matches, it can go from bright skies to pouring rain and the rain even stays on the guns. The weather also changes the visibility which means that players will have to change tactics depending the weather.

The last thing that really made an impact on me was the bayonet charges. It basically turns the player into a blood raging soldier making a mad dash for the enemy soldier and the player will stop at nothing to get to his enemy, just like in World War I.

If I have to summarize it: Battlefield 1 improves on everything in every way possible and if the gameplay is anything to by then Battlefield 1 will be the best Battlefield game ever made. What was shown today was just a one of the modes and maps that will be in the finished game.
