E3 2016: Beautiful Paper Mario: Color Splash disappoints fans, gets a release date

Nintendo hates RPGs

Nintendo streamed footage of Paper Mario: Color Splash, and it was beautiful. The Big N furthered its reputation as the king of the arts and crafts visual style. It's unbelievable, almost as unbelievable as Nintendo's seeming dislike for the RPG genre: Color Splash is cut from the same mold as the maligned Sticker Star with its gimmick battles and instant-win-if-you-have-the-right-card boss encounters.

Angry fans are venting their frustrations on social media, as they tend to do, with complaints ranging from combat mechanics, to the lack of interesting new NPCs compared to earlier games in the series, and a whole lot of frustration over Paper Toad hunts. It seems long time fans wanted a return to the series' RPG roots, but the success of non-RPG Paper Mario games has lead to and solidified Paper Mario as an action-adventure game.

Paper Mario: Color Splash will be released October 7, 2016. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think, RPG or Adventure?
