The sweet sounds of Stakeouts, Mp40s and a Flamethrower… It could only mean one thing.
Finally, we were given a proper introduction to the upcoming instalment of the Call of Duty franchise during Sony's E3 press conference, as Call of Duty: WWII powered back into the limelight in a rather spectacular fashion.
Anticipation has been building for this game since its name was announced back in April of this year, as the game looks to be completely moving away from the futuristic style of combat that we've seen in recent years, but rather, going back to the basics of World War II.
The return to a more traditional warfare setting follows the significant backlash towards Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare in 2016, where the official first-look trailer was climbing the YouTube 'most disliked videos' charts for many weeks after its reveal.
Since then, Activision chiefs have publicly admitted that moving CoD into space was a "mistake" and that the franchise's direction of travel just didn't resonate with a portion of the franchise's core support.
This time, however, gamers were treated to a worldwide reveal presentation that is arguably tailored towards the crowd that rejected the latest games – those with a thirst for more of what made some of the older games a success.
Watch the new trailer below:
Call of Duty: WWII is expected to hit shelves on November 3rd, and will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC platforms. The WWII private beta will open on August 25 for PlayStation 4 owners.
