Two weeks ago, Iron Galaxy, the developers of Killer Instinct, revealed their new project, a fast-paced Action game called Extinction where players are tasked with taking down giant ogres in an effort to defend their city. The developers brought an alpha build of the game with them to E3 2017 and used it to show off the worldwide gameplay premier.
And here it is:
Extinction's main pillars of gameplay begin with the idea of being able to traverse the environment quickly. That makes sense considering the titanic proportions of the incoming ogres, so it's quite easy for players to get from the ground the rooftops in a matter of seconds. The protagonist, Avil is helped by his ability to dash in any direction, run horizontally and vertically along surfaces, cling to walls, and use his whip to pull himself towards ledges.
Once you've gotten yourself into position, the real fun begins when the ogres commence their attack. Taking down one of the behemoths involves dismembering its limbs, which can grow back if you're too slow. Fortunately, each limb can be taken out in one powerful and satisfying strike, but doing so requires you to remove its armor first skillfully.
Of course, the coup de grace comes when you cut off the head, but of course, besting one ogre is just the beginning.
Extinction releases on PS4, Xbox One and PC in Q1 2018.
