E3 2017: Machine Games is planning a Wolfenstein trilogy

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus was revealed on Sunday and the initial reaction was incredibly positive. Wolfenstein: The New Order was a highly praised FPS that combined intense, fun gameplay with great storytelling in an alternate universe where the Nazis are in control.

A sequel was almost a guarantee after the success of The New Order but will this sequel be made for the sake of capitalizing on the success of the original or has there always been a plan for a sequel? In an interview with Danny O'Dwyer, two developers from Machine Games spoke on the topic and said that they've been planning a full blown trilogy from the start.

"Our plan from the beginning has been to make it into a trilogy, that's still the plan. It depends of course how it goes with this one but it's always been the plan to do three parts." said executive producer Jerk Gustafsson

"Me and my co-writer think ahead all the time we had the arc for the individual game but also the meta-arc for all of the games. It's amazing for us because we've never made a sequel before." said creative director Jens Matthies

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus will release on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on October 27th, 2017.
