XCOM 2 has been in the hands of the public for over a year. Since release, it's had three DLC packs that add small stories and equipment to the game, but they haven't gotten a full-blown expansion, extending the game to any significant amount. But today on the PC Gaming Show at E3 2017, Firaxis has announced a new expansion for the game that does just that.
In this new expansion called XCOM 2: War of the Chosen, XCOM encounters new enemies, new stories, and new problems. There are new enemies called the Chosen, elite alien hero units, similar to the boss units in the DLC Alien Hunters. But they seem to have much more to them and will prove to be more of a nemesis than a nuisance.
According to Firaxis:
"The fight against ADVENT continues when additional resistance factions form in order to eliminate the alien threat on Earth. In response, a new enemy, known as the “Chosen,” emerges with one goal: recapture the Commander. This expansion to the 2016 award-winning strategy game of the year includes new Hero classes to counter the “Chosen”, new enemies, missions, environments and increased depth in strategic gameplay. Requires XCOM 2 to play"
Not only does the game add the Chosen, but three more human factions to strengthen the Earth's resistance. They add new layers to the strategy aspect, as well as new hero class units to the game for XCOM. There's also the addition of the Lost, which are zombified humans. Not to be confused with typical zombies, these Lost attack both humans and aliens in great numbers.
XCOM is known for its deep, rich strategy and tactical layers, being the chess game of the tactical genre. These new factions and enemies will add to the XCOM 2 experience (as it requires the base game to play) on August 29, 2017.
