E3 2018: EA announces Origin Access Premier Subscription Service

Electronic Arts today brought more than just new games. The publisher announced a new gaming subscription for the PC, where users will get instant access to new EA games, like upcoming Anthem and Battlefield V.

CEO Andrew Wilkinson took the stage at today’s EA Play event and did announce nothing less than what could possibly be the future of gaming services. A premium subscription model which will offer even the newest blockbuster games to be played without the need of separate game purchases. But it’s not only about new titles, as Origin Access Premier will also give users access to the Origin Vault, which comprises more than 100 games from Electronic Arts themselves and third-party developers.

The service is slated to arrive this summer and will cost users $14,99 per month or $99,99 per year. For gamers who want to play all new big blockbusters, this deal looks to be a good one, as it also offers access to those games a whole five days before official release.

Origin Access Premier is not the first time EA has tried their hands on subscription models for games. The publisher already offers a service which gives you access to the origin Vault, extended trials for new games and special discounts on the Origin Store. With the announcement of Origin Access Premier, this previous service will be renamed into Origin Access Basic while continuing to offer the same benefits.

Another possible game changing feature Origin Access Premier is going to offer, is the ability to stream those via the cloud. This means, you won’t have to download games on your PC or wonder if your PC is capable enough to handle new games. Similar to how PlayStation Now works. Origin Access Premier reminds us of Xbox Game Pass but for today, we didn’t get any information whether this EA’s plans will someday come to consoles as well. It’s a PC-only announcement for now.
