During Electronic Arts’ E3 event dubbed EA Play, juggernaut publisher announced a new original IP, Sea of Solitude. Made by Berlin-based German developer studio Jo-Mei Games, Sea of Solitude is an upcoming title under EA’s Originals initiative.
Sea of Solitude or in short SoS, is a low-profile project by a small studio and joins the ranks of more experimental titles under Electronic Arts portfolio. Similar to Unravel which just got a surprise sequel announcement and release, Sea of Solitude is a game which many would rather expect from an indie developer.
CEO and director Cornelia Geppert stood on stage and presented her team’s game. Sea of Solitude is an adventure game which is not going to shy from highlighting topics which are usually seldom seen in games. Themes about depression, loneliness and sadness. Not much was disclosed about the game and the director was more interested in setting the tone of the experience, players are going to have when they play Sea of Solitude, during the reveal, rather than showing game mechanics or story.
“This adventure is about Kay, who has turned into a monster and her journey to find out what happened to her.
On her search to change, she soon finds out that her biggest enemies are not the huge monsters that she meets on her way through the Sea of Solitude, but something way more dangerous.”
A rather nebulous first impression but it did manage to pique our interests with its artistic style and serious undertones. Check out the trailer to see for yourself!
