E3 2018: FromSoftware reveals Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice with Trailer

Today at Microsoft’s jam-packed E3 press conference, we finally got the reveal of FromSoftware’s new title, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. The game is set to release early 2019 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. The title is being published by Activision. Check out the reveal trailer!

Excitement was long in the air, ever since FromSoftware teased a new project during The Game Awards show last December. Back then we only got a very brief teaser showing a grotesquely bloody scene of an apparatus consisting of a bone, metal parts and wires. Rumors started floating whether this was hinting at a pure Horror game or maybe a sequel to Bloodborne which also had horror themes.

Now we know better. The new game is called Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and we got a lot more than just a  teaser. The announcement brought in tow a trailer showing a lot of gameplay moments, making it much clearer what the game is going to be like. Set in what looks like feudal Japan with a hefty dose of mythical creatures and demons, it features a warrior who seemingly has a problem dying, since we could see him resurrect after loosing a battle in the trailer. The apparatus from the first teaser also turns out to be his left arm!

We were greeted by very fast paced action, gruel and bloody combat, unlike anything we’ve come to expect from FromSoftware’s popular Souls series, and we got a look at several   – what we can assume – boss fights. Larger than life, demon-like enemies whose designs are influenced by feudal Japanese aesthetics. Shadow Die Twice is going to have a focus on melee combat but the pace looked very fast and fluid. The protagonist also sports a grappling hook with which he traverses the map quickly and gets access to vantage points.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice managed to do the seemingly impossible and surprise us greatly, despite all teasers, rumors and the developer’s recent games. We look forward to more info on Shadows Die Twice when it lands early next year.
