After taking a year off in 2016, Ubisoft returned to their staple franchise with Assassin’s Creed Origins. The game was a massive overhaul for the series, taking more of an RPG approach and it looks like Ubisoft will be building on that with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
After letting us wonder if Ubisoft was making a new Assassin’s Creed this year or if they’d take another year off, Ubisoft committed to making Assassin’s Creed Odyssey this year. While it was intended to be a surprise, the game leaked late last week and ultimately showed Ubisoft’s hand.
Ubisoft confirmed Bayek will not be the protagonist and we’re moving from Egypt to Greece, it’ll build off of the concepts introduced in Origins. We’ll see the ability to pick your own protagonist, dialogue trees, branching paths, multiple endings and much more, leaning heavily into the RPG elements of Origins.
Naval combat makes a return to Assassin’s Creed, allowing you to explore the beautiful blue seas for riches and treasures to equip yourself with. You’ll even be able to fight with an entire fleet of ships commanded by you.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey also sees massive battles with Athens and Greeks, Ubisoft claims that these battles feature up to 300 characters on screen at once and they even feature their own bosses.

It looks like the next big step for the acclaimed third-person action game by building on the old and delivering new and ambitious innovations for Assassin’s Creed.
