E3 2018: Xbox doubles down on exclusives; Acquires several major studios

For the entire generation, the massive complaint on Xbox is the lack of worthwhile first-party exclusives. Games like Scalebound were canceled, Halo has been lackluster, Gears of War is ok, but there haven’t been any major worthwhile Xbox exclusives.

Microsoft has heard you and came out on stage to announce that they’re making a new studio known as The Initiative to develop Xbox exclusives and they’ve acquired some more studios to make new games as well. Among their acquisitions, they’ve grabbed Undead Labs (State of Decay), Ninja Theory (Devil May Cry, Hellblade), Playground Games (Forza Horizon), and Compulsion Games (We Happy Few).

While they didn’t reveal any of the games these teams were working on, Playground Games is making an open world game that is reportedly a reboot of the Fable franchise. We likely won’t begin hearing more from what these studios are cooking up until next year.
