EA appoints new head of BioWare

BioWare has a new head honcho. Electronic Arts has appointed former BioWare Austin general manager Matthew Bromberg to be the new head of BioWare. Essentially, Bromberg will continue to lead BioWare Austin, but his duties have been increased — they will include BioWare Canada, Victory Games (Command & Conquer studio) and Waystone Games.

BioWare has been without a general manager since its co-founders, Greg Zeschuk and Ray Muzyka, left the company last year. Bromberg has been with EA since 2012, when Star Wars: The Old Republic was transitioning from a subscription-based MMORPG to free-to-play. Bromberg was the former CEO of Major League Gaming before joining EA.

BioWare has a couple of big titles coming for EA. Two games powered by DICE's Frostbite 3 engine, Dragon Age 3: Inquisition and the next game in the Mass Effect series, will be big players. While there's no timetable announced for the next Mass EffectDragon Age 3: Inquisition will release in autumn of 2014.
