EA exec says microtransaction may or may not return to Star Wars Battlefront 2

Since the Star Wars Battlefront 2 loot box debacle began last month, EA’s CFO Blake Jorgensen has been out speaking quite a bit. One of the more recent quotes of his that hit sites was why Battlefront 2’s microtransactions weren’t cosmetic, as opposed to being ‘predatory’ as some US State Representatives believe.

Speaking at the 37th Nasdaq Investor Conference on Tuesday, Jorgensen spoke up on the state of Battlefront 2 and suggested that there was uncertainty on whether or not EA would re-implement them into the game.

“Clearly we are very focused on listening to the consumer and understanding what the consumer wants and that’s evolving constantly. But we’re working on improving the progression system. We turned the MTX off as an opportunity to work on the progression system inside the game. We’re continuing to do that. I think there’s an update this week and again next week.

“Overtime we’ll address how we will want to bring the MTX either into the game or not and what form we will decide to bring it into.”

EA/DICE have already begun adjusting the game’s economy and progression, but we will have to wait and see what further changes they are bringing to the game and whether or not microtransactions make their way back into the game.

If EA doesn’t bring back microtransactions, it might be because they are looking to maintain their account with Disney/Lucasfilm and continue to create games based on the Star Wars IP.
