EA plans to release the new Battlefield game next year

The venerable Battlefield franchise is going to make its grand entrance onto the next-gen of gaming systems in 2021. That’s according to the publisher’s statements via IGN.

It’s hardly a surprise that Electronic Arts plans to continue with its massively popular online shooter series. But the interesting tidbit here is that fans of bombastic action won’t have to wait long to get the newest Battlefield.

“The team at DICE is working on the standalone Battlefield V update releasing this summer, and continuing their work on delivering Community Games. While the studio’s vision for Star Wars Battlefront II is now complete with this week’s The Battle on Scarif Update, the servers, in-game challenges, recurring events and game support will continue as the game lives on with players and the community. We’re looking forward to hearing players’ stories for both games, for years to come.” Eelectronic Arts via IGN

The news comes shortly after EA’s announcements that their two big multiplayer shooters currently are reaching feature completion. We’re talking about Battlefield V and Star Wars: Battlefront II of course. EA and DICE managed to turn around both these games’ initial lukewarm and dissappointing launch periods with substantial updates and free content.

Now, the Swedish powerhouse studio is fully committing to the next chapter of the Battlefield series. Not only that, but it’s supposed to come out in 2021. With DICE’s penchant for creating visually stunning titles, we can only be excited about what they will be able to craft on next-gen systems.

While Electronic Arts didn’t talk about target platforms just yet, it’s pretty much a given that the next Battlefield will appear on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The real question here is whether the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will get the game as well. If history is any indication, the new entry ought to be a cross-gen game.
