In a move that many may find surprising, EA’s Peter Moore has announced that they’re pulling the Medal of Honor series from it’s bi-yearly lineup largely due to low review scores and below expected sales numbers for the series' recent installment, Medal of Honor: Warfighter.
The announcement came during an investors call today, which focused primarily on their core series’. The move, however, creates a void for EA’s “triple-A” lineup, including their first-person shooter collection.
"This one is behind us now. We are taking Medal of Honor out of the rotation, and have a plan to bring year-over-year continuity to our shooter offerings," Moore stated.
"We struggled with two challenges: the slowdown that impacted the entire sector and poor critical and commercial reception for Medal of Honor Warfighter," said Moore. "Medal of Honor was an obvious miss. The game was solid, but the focus on combat authenticity did not resonate with consumers.
"Critics were polarized and gave the game scores which were, frankly, lower than it deserved," he added.
This announcement has also led some to begin chirping that Homefront 2, now being developed by Crytek, may possibly be purchased and published by EA. No word has been said from either Crytek or EA about a possible partnership, but the move itself would make total sense, as Homefront’s new home with Crytek will undoubtedly fix its ailments, highlighted specifically by poor graphics.
