EA reveals new details for Star Wars Battlefront 2 beta; Modes, dates, PC specs

When EA rebooted the Star Wars Battlefront series in 2015, it left many people somewhat disappointed. The lack of a campaign, interesting maps with smart designs, and variety of weapons weren't enough to sell people on the game. While it got better over time with DLC and content updates, many people felt burnt by the title.

With Battlefront 2, EA aims to change all of that by introducing a brand new story mode that will be canon to the Star Wars universe, maps, weapons, and characters from all eras, and more. To win some players back, a beta will begin this week and it'll pack quite a bit of content.

Players will be able to take the battle to Naboo, home of Queen Amidala and the battlegrounds for the finale in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, in a 20 v 20 assault. The mode known as Galactic Assault will feature Separatist droids, Clone troopers, and heroes from all eras including the legendary sith lord Darth Maul and The Force Awakens' Rey. Players can earn in-game battle points to become these heroes or even call in reinforcements in the form of upgraded soldiers or vehicles.

For those who were upset by the lack of space battles in the original game, you'll also get to try your hand at the Starfighter Assault mode! Players will be tasked with defending or destroying an Imperial Star Destroyer and will also be given the chance to try out various iconic ships from the prequel trilogy, original trilogy, and new trilogy.

Finally, players will be thrown into an all-out war via the Strike mode at Maz Kanata's castle on the planet of Takodana from The Force Awakens. Strike mode is exclusively class based so don't expect Han Solo, Chewbacca, or Finn to show up and help you clean house.

Players who pre-order can jump in on October 4th, those who opt to wait for it to open up to the public will have to wait until October 6th. The beta will close on October 9th. If you're on PC, you can check out the specs for the beta below!
