Although EA will unveil its plans for Star Wars games at E3, the publisher/developer conglomerate has briefly hinted at what's in store for the popular franchise's video game future. Or rather, what the future does not hold for future Star Wars video games.
Speaking during the Stifel 2013 Technology Conference, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen explained that EA's new Star Wars games will not specifically be based on any of the upcoming Star Wars films — of which there are plenty planned. However, EA does intend to leverage the movie releases as a marketing opportunity for any new game, which may be launch around the time of the films.
"These aren't movie games, per se; these are stand-alone games," Jorgensen said. "But obviously they would come out near the movies and be able to tailgate off of some of the buzz that will be created around the new Star Wars movies."
In the same presentation, Jorgensen also hinted at the possibility of EA restoring the Star Wars: Battlefront franchise and confirmed that EA will continue to develop and publish games for the current Xbox 360 and PS3, despite the announcements of next-gen consoles from Microsoft and Sony.
