EA Sports has shared the first details for its next-gen golf game. And the first big announcement: they will be dropping Tiger Woods as the face of the series.
"EA SPORTS and Tiger Woods have also made a mutual decision to end our partnership, which includes Tiger's named PGA TOUR golf game," Daryl Holt, VP and GM of Golf at EA Sports wrote. "We’ve always been big fans of Tiger and we wish him continued success in all his future endeavors.
"Moving forward, we will continue to work with the PGA TOUR exclusively to create groundbreaking golfing titles and our partnership remains strong."
EA has released 16 golf games under the Tiger Woods title, one every year starting from Tiger Woods PGA Tour 99 in 1998 through Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 earlier this year.
EA did not cite any particular reasons for ending the partnership with Tiger. He remains a high profile golf figure despite a Major Championship drought that now stretches five years. Given his popularity among fans of the sport, it's hard to believe EA would end the partnership based on his struggles.
This announcement is just the latest in a string of changes hitting EA Sports. Earlier this year, EA confirmed they will not be making a college football game for next season as result of the "ongoing dispute between the NCAA and student-athletes who seek compensation for playing college football."
And in other news, the company also released a "Work in Progress" screenshot of its next-gen golf game.

We're working on a new approach to deliver the best golf experience to our fans — we think you'll love it, and so we’re excited to share the first screenshot of our next generation golf game currently in development.
