EA Sports to switch from Ignite to Frostbite engine for FIFA 17

EA Sports is looking to move FIFA 17 from its current Ignite engine to a more flexible Frostbite engine, according to reports.

For many years EA Sports has been focused on the quality of artificial intelligence in its annual football title, and now the potential transition towards a new engine could aid this somewhat.

This move would suggest that the developer is looking to move more of its franchises towards Frostbite technology, following the move of Rory McIlroy's PGA Tour and its transition back in 2015. EA claimed, at the time of the game's launch, that the new engine would pave the way for improved outdoor environment creation, reduced loading times and much more.

However, this isn't the only EA game that runs on Frostbite, many of EA's larger titles – such as Battlefield, Star Wars: Battlefront, Mirror's Edge and so on – have also moved over to the new engine.

GameInformer has reported, per their sources, that EA Sports are also looking to move many of its other sports-based titles to Frostbite too, such as NBA Live 17, NHL 17 and Madden NFL 17.

This report has not yet been officially confirmed by EA Sports, but we could hear more about it during this year's E3 trade fair.
