EA struggled with new Mass Effect game versus a remaster

We know which one won.

With the reveal of Mass Effect: Andromeda for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC fans of the series have been more than ecstatic about finally getting a glimpse of one of their top wishlisted games. As far as Mass Effect: Andromeda goes, it looks great… but what about making the original Mass Effect series look just as great.

Is there a Mass Effect Remaster in development? According to EA's Executive Vice President at EA Studios Patrick Söderlund, the development teams working on Mass Effect struggled with choosing between creating Mass Effect: Andromeda and a remaster.

"I won't lie and say we haven't looked at it," Söderlund revealed. "But for us, it's about weighing where we spend our resources. Is it better for them to be working on a completely new IP, which you know BioWare is, or should they be remastering a Mass Effect?"

When specifically questioned on whether or not the conversations on a Mass Effect remaster had continued Söderlund declined to comment. After the conversation with Söderlund there's a thought that remains… Because EA has their own studios and is working with BioWare, couldn't BioWare's own development team be working on Andromeda while EA works on the Mass Effect Trilogy remaster?

The hope remains.
