Electronic Arts may be working on remasters for the classic Command & Conquer strategy games which started way back in the mid-90s. A game producer from EA used a very intimate way of reaching the old school fans of the C&C series on OpenRA. A fan website dedicated to keep the classic strategy games alive through continued development.
Jim Vesella, producer at EA, penned the passionate article on OpenRA and made hearts of many fans jump in anticipation. After all, Command & Conquer is basically a dead franchise at this point. Despite getting a new entry, Command & Conquer: Rivals is anything but what fans of the series were hoping for. Announced at this year’s E3, Rivals is going to be a one-on-one free-to-play mobile title, with a severely shallow-looking depth.
It’s exactly how after the announcement of this mobile spin-off, today’s news comes as such a nice, big surprise. The death of the franchise looked to be certain. What a shame that would be for one of the most influential strategy game series ever.
To the surprise of Command & Conquer fans, it looks like the love for the franchise still runs deep at Electronic Arts. Jim Vesella, himself a producer on Command & Conquer 3 and Red Alert 3, the last really well-received C&C games, disclosed that his company is looking into ways to bring the classic Command & Conquer games back on the PC, where it all began so many years ago.
For now, it doesn’t seem likely that remasters of C&C will arrive anytime soon, since Vesella didn’t post his article just to sooth disgruntled fans and get them to give C&C: Rivals a chance but is asking the gaming community for direct input for the future of the game series on the PC.
