Early ‘Civil War’ concept art depicts Captain America vs Ant-Man

Early concept art for 'Captain America: Civil War' shows that Ant-Man may have originally been Team Stark.

This year's highly successful 'Captain America: Civil War' was not only the third installment to the 'Captain America' series, but also marked the start of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase III. The movie was a loose adaptation of Marvel's 2006 Civil War comic series, which pit all of their heroes against each other in a war for the ages.

If you recall, the two sides of the conflict were Team Cap and Team Iron Man. Team Iron Man consisted of Iron Man himself, War Machine, Vision, Black Widow, and the newly added Spider-Man and Black Panther. Team Cap's roster was made up of Captain America, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, and the most recent MCU movie hero, Ant-Man. While Ant-Man (aka Giant Man) wound up playing an important role during the epic battle between the two sides, apparently, he may have originally been written as a staple of Team Stark. A recently revealed early concept art depicts Ant-Man/Giant Man squaring off against Captain America:

It would seem that Scott Lang's team placement may have been altered as a result of some of the post production changes that were made. You might remember how Marvel finally acquired shared movie rights with Sony, allowing them to feature Spider-Man in 'Civil War'. This new development forced the screenwriters to move around some of the fine details of the project in order to accomadate the new addition. Having Ant-Man switch sides may have been a smart call, assuming you consider how lopsided the opposing forces would have been otherwise.
