Early drafts of Deadpool called for Wolverine and Taskmaster

Deadpool and Wolverine have quite the history together, and in a recent interview with Empire Online, actor Ryan Reynolds revealed early scripts for the blockbuster film called for Hugh Jackman's appearance in the movie.

Additionally, Reynolds also revealed that classic supervillain Taskmaster was also featured in early drafts.

"Taskmaster was in the script originally. Too expensive,” Reynolds said. “We had versions where Hugh Jackman was in there, but it just becomes a big mess for the studio – schedules, money, everything.”

“We went through such hell developing the script, and developing which X-Men we could keep, and which we couldn’t," the actor explained. "It turned into such a nightmare. The studio would just say: ‘too expensive, too expensive’ to everybody."

Back in May of last year, Reynolds revealed he wanted Jackman's Wolverine to be featured in the film, but cited scheduling issues as a potential conflict. In July 2015, the actor pitched an idea for a Deadpool/Wolverine movie, though it was more of a joke. Still, it's something Marvel fans have longed for — a proper encounter between the two.

Reynolds did appear in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine as Deadpool, and while imperssive, it was very different version than the one we see in theaters today. Seriously, how could they sew shut the mouth of the "Merc with a Mouth"?

Unfortunately, with the upcoming Wolverine movie believed to be Jackman's last time portraying the iconic X-Men character, the window of opportunity to see these two meet on the big screen (properly) is closing. If Wolverine 3 really is to be Jackman's last time playing the character, than we have to hope Deadpool will make an appearance in that. Or, we have to hope Jackman is at least willing to return one more time — even if it's a cameo — in the Deadpool sequel.
