The first Earth Defense Force game was a blind buy for me. I saw it for five bucks at Blockbuster (back when they we're still a thing), bought it, and enjoyed the hell out of its quirkiness. It was probably the closest to a Starship Troopers game that I could get my hands on, in terms of giant bugs and plot cheesiness. While Insect Armageddon was a fairly straightforward sequel, nothing matched the craziness of the first game.
Looks like Japan can already look forward to yet another EDF game, titled Earth Defense Force 2025. It will feature four-player co-op, which also happens to be a first for the series on a home console, and will allow players to choose from various classes.
As of right now, it's only announced for the Xbox 360 and PS3 so far, with no Wii U port in sight. That's a little sad but hey, more Earth Defense Force!!
