EA’s New game Subscription Service Origin Access Premier goes live next week

Electronic Arts’ premium game subscription tier Origin Access Premier is set to launch next week, according to a statement made by EA CFO Blake Jorgensen during an investor’s call. The new Premier tier offers a substantial upgrade over the already existing Origin Access subscription.

It was during this year’s E3 when Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilkinson announced their upgraded gaming subscription service. Now, instead of a single option, EA offers a tiered approach. The previous Origin Access sub has been renamed as Origin Access Basic and offers the same benefits while the premium tier will be called Origin Access Premier and promises full access to even the newest titles released under EA.

A small selection of games included in The Vault

Blockbuster AAA games like the newest Battlefield game or the extensively hyped Anthem will all become playable without any restrictions to subscribers of EA’s Premier tier. But not only that, users will also get all benefits “basic” subscribers enjoy as well. Access to an ever-growing library of old and new game titles, simply called “The Vault” and 10% discount in EA’s Origin digital store.

While we have confirmation now by an EA executive, the website for Origin Access still asks us to “Stay tuned for more details, coming soon!”. The Help Page just got a new update, roughly detailing Origin Access Premier and Basic, which indicates the launch is indeed imminent. There, we also learn that existing subscribers won’t have their subs end but turn automatically into the Basic tier.

Gaming subscription services are quickly becoming more common, especially since Microsoft successfully started their Game Pass service on the Xbox One console, which became a hit among gamers. It’s fairly realistic to imagine other big publishers and platform holders to soon offer their own subscription services. Playstation especially looks like a natural fit for the business model.

EA Access is currently only available for PC. Stay tuned to learn more about EA Origin Access Premier in the coming days.
