Apparently, Ed Helms is in negotiations to star in New Line's 'Vacaction' movie. This is a continuation of Nation Lampoon's Vacation movies, made popular by Chevy Chase playing the dad everyone would love to have, Clark Griswold. Who is Ed Helms going to be playing in it? Helms would be cast as Rusty Griswold, the now adult son of Clark, previously played in order by Anthony Michael Hall (Vacation), Jason Lively (European Vacation), the loveable Big Bang Theory star John Galecki (Christmas Vacation), and my personal favorite Ethan Embry (Vegas Vacation).
There's no word on the plot, but it is being scripted by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein of Horrible Bosses, and they are also looking to direct the movie. There's also no word on whether Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo will reprise their roles of Clark and Ellen Griswold. It's hard to imagine a Vacation movie without them, even if the torch is being passed to Rusty.
I actually like the casting choice of Ed Helms as Rusty, and I think he could carry a new Vacation movie franchise, especially if Rusty is going to be walking in his dad's footsteps. I always had this idea for a new Vacation movie that would have Clark and Ellen Griswold as grandparents, and they plan a family seven-day cruise for their whole family. Of course, shenanigans are going to happen.
So John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein — if you want some input, don't hesitate to contact me.
