Bethesda may have removed the required monthly subscription for The Elder Scrolls Online, but players on PS4 or Xbox One will still be required to adhere to the platform holder's rules regarding online play.
For PlayStation 4, that means you'll still need a PS Plus membership to play the game online. For Xbox One, you'll need Xbox LIVE Gold.
"Yes. As with any standard multiplayer game on these platforms, an internet connection and an Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus membership will be required to play," Bethesda said in the FAQ regarding the newly announced Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited.
Typically, MMOs that are completely free-to-play get a pass on PS Plus or Xbox LIVE Gold requirements; however, as we pointed out earlier today, The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited is not a completely free-to-play game. Although the required monthly subscription has been removed, it still requires you to purchase a base game, making it just like "any standard multiplayer game."
The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited is due out for Xbox One and PS4 on June 9, 2015. The one-time purchase price has not yet been revealed.
