SpaceX and Tesla brainchild Elon Musk is weighing in on video games and he doesn’t think too highly of the medium’s storytelling capabilities.
In a recent interview with Y Combinator, Musk and YC president Sam Altman were having small talk about video games when Altman asked for video game recommendations. That’s when Musk quickly chimed in on Overwatch.

As the two were gushing over the game (and Blizzard) the conversation then turned to the current state of storytelling in gaming, with Musk saying “Honestly, I think that’s (storytelling in games) is really neglected. That’s the criticism I heard of the latest Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, that the storytelling is kind of lame.”
However, Musk went on to say Deus Ex: Human Revolution and the original Deus Ex had amazing storytelling. It’s also important to note that Musk admits he hasn’t had a chance to play any of the Naughty Dog games including Uncharted or The Last Us.
It’s kind of cool to hear from one of the most brilliant minds in the world chiming in about video games.
What do you think? Is video game storytelling being neglected these days?
