In a move that will have every male singing "Just watch I'm going to make Belle my wife!", Emma Watson has announced that she will be playing Belle in Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast movie.
Disney has already made a live-action version of Maleficent (for Sleeping Beauty) and has Cinderella coming out this March. Jon Favreau is also directing a live-action take on The Jungle Book for Disney. Bill Condon (Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Gods and Monsters) is directing Beauty and the Beast, and Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) is writing the script.
Watson took to her Facebook page and left this message for her fans to read:
I'm finally able to tell you… that I will be playing Belle in Disney's new live-action Beauty and the Beast! It was such a big part of my growing up, it almost feels surreal that I'll get to dance to 'Be Our Guest' and sing 'Something There'. My six year old self is on the ceiling — heart bursting. Time to start some singing lessons. I can't wait for you to see it. Emma xx
Pardon the creepy — and poorly done — photoshop.
The most exciting part of this announcement is that Watson said there will be songs. I really hope this is the case and she's not just saying that. Disney's Maleficent didn't have any singing, and it looks like the same can be said for Cinderella. But Beauty and the Beast's songs are so amazing, it would be a shame if the live-action version didn't have songs.
Up next, let's get that live-action The Little Mermaid announcement.
