Energy Hook, an SSX-style "grapple-and-swing-and-run-on-walls" game from former Spider-Man 2 developer Jamie Fristrom, is coming to PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in 2014.
After a failed attempt to running his own indie studio, Fristrom returned to the indie scene thanks to an unorthodox, yet successful Kickstarter campaign for Energy Hook. The game involves swinging from rooftops — think Spider-Man 2 — in order to achieve "points-for-style" like SSX. You'll swing from rooftops, pull off mid-air tricks, run along walls, and rack up points and energy because "it's the future. And that's what the extreme sports of the future looks like," according to Fristrom. Gravity boots, jetpacks, and gravity beams are just a few items that will appear in the game.
Fristrom found new life in game development thanks to Sony's platforms. "PS Vita is my favorite handheld," he said on the PS Blog. "There’s no handheld like it. Nothing else comes with dual sticks, and Energy Hook wants those dual sticks!"
"And I’m also glad to be bringing it to PS4," he added. Mark Cerny has been my hero for years; in fact, we borrowed from his playbook to make Spider-Man 2. So to see him be a frontman for PS4 warms my heart."
What's interesting is that Firstrom said Energy Hook will be hitting PlayStation "first," leaving open the possibility that the game could eventually appear on Xbox platforms as well.
